Max Defender

Max Defender describes himself as a common man raised on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota. He was given the right to carry on ceremonies of the Ojibwa people by his elders.

The Native people call North America Turtle Island and Max reflects, “I come from where the heart is. My grandfather, Frances Cree, always said to follow what our prophets gave to us Love, Unity, Respect and Faith. This is what we try to hold on to and to live our life by today.”

Max resides in Portland, Oregon, with his family. He is respected by many nations for his leadership and his teachings. Max has been honored with various names by the people: Bob Tail Elk (Dakota), Old Eagle Man (Ojibwa), Kills The Clown (Nokota), Little Beaver (Ojibwa)
