Honorary Chief and a Spiritual Leader of the Cowlitz Tribe

Itswoot Wawa Hyiu (Roy Wilson) is an Honorary Chief and a Spiritual Leader of the Cowlitz Tribe of Indians. Roy served for five years in the 1980s as the Native American representative on the Religious Advisory Committee for the Washington State Department of Corrections. During that time, he worked with Native American men and women in various prisons around the state, helping to introduce ceremony into the adult and juvenile prison systems. Roy shares his understanding of the Sundance Medicine Wheel in order to improve the lives and experiences of our youth and our relatives. Through these teachings he helps to empower us all, and remind us of our connection to Mother Earth and to Grandfather Creator.
